Abstract :

The influence of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on the political development in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the period between 1987 to 2004 is the aim of this study. Furthermore, the study pointed at the history of this political movement and highlighted the concept of political development and other such vocabulary like political participation, and, Hamas attitudes regarding these concepts. The study discussed also the political development under occupation in order to trace all the factors which played role in this development. The study showed obviously that Hamas has achieved a remarkable progress in various political participation aspects including military resistance of course. Hamas has sighed also notably success in student unions elections since 1994, even though, Hamas rejected to participate in parliamentary elections in 1996 for ideological and political causes. But Hamas was prohibited to participate in local elections because it is not carried out by Palestinian Authority. Hamas shows very vast public activities such as demonstrations and relief deliveries, and other like these public existence. Some observers believe that Hamas has shown attitudes to participate in the power by using peaceful means, despite the movement doesn't practice this attitude in elections boxes till now. Two obstacles slowed down that notably progress of Hamas. First; Palestinian Authority which has one-sided mentality, and secondly, Israeli Occupation who has the power on the field. The contradiction between Palestinian Authority and Hamas movement doesn't lead to freedom and liberation, and to achieve that goal, practical plan based on military resistance and other means should be created by two parties. Such a plan may lead to the real begging at political development as well as the political participation. Internal unity is the first step to over-come the occupation.
