Abstract

This study sought to identify the perceptions of An-Najah National University students towards the democratic practices of faculty members in it. In addition, the study examined whether these students’ perceptions differed according to sex, college, place of living and cumulative average variables. To these two ends, the researcher developed a questionnaire and administered it to the sample. The 40-item questionnaire revolved around the students’ perceptions towards the democratic practices of the faculty members. The population of the study was all An-Najah National University (16,000 men and women students). A randomly chosen sample was drawn from the population. The total sample amounted to 800 students of both sexes.

The study raised the following question and tested the following hypothesis.

What are the perceptions of An-Najah National University students towards the democratic practices of the faculty members?

There are no statistically significant differences at α =0.05 in the perceptions of An-Najah National University students towards the democratic practices of the faculty members which may be attributed to variables of sex, college, place of living, and cumulative average.

After data collection and analysis it was found that the over all score of students’ perceptions of the democratic practices of faculty members was average. The percentage of response of the total score was 62.0%. It was also found that there were statistically significant differences at α =0.05 in the perceptions of students towards the democratic practices of faculty members in the domains of fairness and equality among students and method of teaching. The overall score, between males and females, was in favor of males. However, no statistically significant differences were found in the domains of freedom of expression, academic course which might be attributed to variable of sex.

In addition, there were no statistically significant differences at α =0.05 in the overall score of students’ perceptions towards the democratic practices of faculty members between males and females in favor of males which might be attributed to college variable. However, there were statistically significant differences at α =0.05 in the score of the students’ perceptions of the faculty members’ democratic practices in the domains of equality and fairness between city students and village and refugee camp students in favor of city students. No statistically significant differences, however, were found in the domains of freedom of expression, academic course and method of teaching which might be attributed to the variable of place of living.

Finally, there were statistically significant differences at α =0.05 in the score of students’ perceptions of faculty members’ democratic practices which might attributed to the cumulative average variable in favor of those who had very good and excellent students.

In the light of these findings, the researcher recommends the following:

· Holding regular cultural and intellectual seminars for faculty members with the participation of both parties in the university to foster concepts of democratic life, values, and practices.

· Supporting and reinforcing student union practices and enhancing democratic values in the contexts and trends in these practices and working towards the purifying of the atmospheres of these practices from anti-democratic values.

· Fostering democratic principles and finding ways to achieve them on the university campus for teachers, students and administrative team.

Conducting further studies on democratic practices and students’perceptions of these practices at other Palestinian universities.

Abstract :

At a time when advanced societies seek to take hold of knowledge and its secrets and control its movement through a healthy ground, thanks to legitimate political systems’ help in fixing it, underdeveloped societies, including the Arab societies, are plagued with informational crises which have cost them a lot at the internal and external levels. This is attributed to the fact that their political regimes lack legitimacy. These regimes, by various means and methods, have imposed themselves. Their top priority is to remain in power and continue to rule. These regimes have totally neglected informational building of their subjects.

The vision of the Arab political system has been based on rule: restriction of freedom and usurpation of rights. These regimes have long believed that freedom, if given to people, will pose a threat to them and to their survival. This restriction of freedom and denial of rights have been practiced under the pretext of maintaining order and law. In so doing, these regimes have censored all tools of information production and dissemination. The Arab regimes are truly living in serious crises. Of these are the crises of legitimacy and democracy and absence of political pluralism. These have allowed denial of rights and civil liberties of the Arab citizen, thus hindering his endeavor for knowledge. The informational building has been hard hit. One of the basics of this building is the exercise of political freedom and civil liberties by the citizen including freedom of thinking, expression of opinion in a way that allows the acceptance of the other’s opinion, and the possibility of opening a dialog with him to come up with an independent, objective, enlightened opinion, on the basis of which a constructive dialog can be initiated.

This status quo of the Arab political regimes and their societies is now in a serious crisis: informational crisis. This has opened the room for foreigners to impose their agenda, and suggest reform initiatives, counting on language of threats. They are frankly pressing for their implementation. This study has proved that behind these schemes are bad intentions, propaganda and political interests.

This study has endeavored to point out that the building or creation of informational Arab societies will not materialize through foreign reform calls and schemes. Rather, what is needed is national reform schemes that take into consideration political reform, first, through creation of legitimate political regimes based on public support, institutional democracy, freedom of opinion and expression and the right to access knowledge wherever it is without any restrictions or conditions.

Abstract :

During the long historical periods, cities of different geographical positions have experienced se types of land usaga Interest in planning the usage of land became significant as a result of the great need for this kind that it works to contro and organizes to satisfy Man recent and f needs.

Several regulations, legislation and laws effected types of using Palestiniaa lands, and every period had its stamp and effect upon the city, that stamp that confirms the rest of these regulations, which our Palestinian cities are still suffering

The study chose Jeoin, as a model of the Palestinian cities that came under the mandatory rules and the occupation laws.

Jenin stands on the southern edge of the plain triangle, known as Marj Jbn Amer, on the lines 28 32 Width, and 18 35-longitude lines, the lines 208 and 177, of the Palestinian lines.

Jenin’s organizational recent space is 23500 Dunam, With 44699 inhabitants, most of whom work on trade and administrative service& ft’s surrounded by the villages of AFJalameh and SandSh on the North Kufiir Dan and Berguin on the West, Deir A Da’ if and A’aba art the East, and Qabteyah on the South

Abstract :

This research is considered a study of the phonological thought of Ibn Alhajeb- a distinguished linguist in the seventh century after Al-Hijrah through his famous work: Sharh Ashafiah.

It also deals with the role of the interpreter Radi Addeen and his approach of tackling issues of content and ways of dealing with them, besides tackling topics through explanation, interpretation, reasoning and exemplification as well as highlighting aspects of agreement and disagreement with most of ancient linguists such as Seebawaih, Ibn Jenni, Al Mobarred and others.

This research comprises a prelude and four parts, each consists of three chapters.

The prelude includes Ibn Alhajeb's life from birth, his teachers, pupils then his works, his scientific position and finally his teachers, pupils then his works, his scientific position and finally his death. It deals also with the importance of this research and its methodology besides the obstacles the researcher has faced.

Part one deals with the phonological issues as approached by Ibn Alhajeb regarding the number of sounds, their place of articulation, sections and qualities.

Part two, which is the main one in this research, deals with the phonological and morphological issues as approached by Ibn Alhjeb besides comparing and contrasting his thought with the opinions of other ancient and modern scientists regarding contraction, replacement (phonetic change) and defectiveness (of letters and words)besides giving syllabic analysis in order to highlight the role of the phonological processing and also to highlight the "identity" of the sound due to influences through the context. The rationale beyond that is simplicity in speech and economy in muscular effort.

Part three deals with the phenomenon of bending (i.e. pronunciation of a shaded towards "e") and reducing the glottal stop (Arabic Hamza) besides the resources of the author and the interpreter and some of the aspects of disagreement between them.

The researcher concludes with an end which shows the role and thought to Ibn Alhajeb who helped, with other ancient linguists, in setting up the phonological domain since this book- Sharh Ashafiah, is considered a valuable reference for Arab scientists and researchers in addition, some western ones who still depend on some Arab references.

Ibn Alhajeb depended on the taste of the letter through experience and observation; such ideas were so important since they helped in the progress of this scientific field as a rich background to highlight the correct identity of the sound by means of laboratories and modern technical apparatuses.

Yet, there are still some vague terms which need more effort and time to clarify them coping with modernity. Future will hopefully make that possible.

Abstract :

In this study, I tried to recognize the poetic character of Abdu-Latif Aqel through his works. I investigated the most prominent issues related to his poetic production. However, this does not mean that I have given the final word about the poet’s character and his creativity since the investigation of the poetic character of Aqel needs research of literary production related to three decades of the history of the Palestinian cause. Findings Among the most prominent findings that I have reached through my study of the poetic experience of the poet are the following: • The suffering that Abdul-Latif Aqel experienced at the personal level had an impact upon forming his poetic character and crystallizing his creativity. He led a life that lacked balance after losing his father and sister and the fact that his mother got married. • Deprivation of the woman seemed to be a major cause of her possession of the poet’s feelings during the early productions of his poetic experience. The image of the woman in his early poems seemed to comprise a part of his poetic readings. • The poet experienced the sufferings of his nation that included banishment, Judaization, expulsion, eviction, torturing, land confiscation, colonization, discrimination, and ignorance policies. All of those measures had a great impact on fostering his resistance attitude. • The poet took the commitment path in most of his poetic production as he realized the role of the word in the struggle movement. He implemented his talents and artistic abilities to defend the cause of his people. In his poetry, he discussed the political worries, the issues, and all the events of his homeland, expressing his love for his land, and calling for steadfastness in it. • The poet took great care in representing the Palestinian in various types as a refugee, a prisoner, and a martyr. These types seemed to reflect one side or another of the homeland embodying its hopes and pains. • The poet unveiled the misleading deceptive image of the occupation. Not only was he able to express the Palestinian refusal of the occupation, but he also urged the Palestinians to resist it. He seemed to believe that the revolution is the way of salvation. He expressed his enthusiasm towards the revolution and declared his yearning for the coming revolutionist. • In his poetry, he portrayed a negative image of the Arab reality as a result of the defeatist political stands that some of the formal Arab regimes adopted regarding the Palestinian cause. • The poet depended on various poetic forms in constructing his artistic structure which included the following forms: the traditional poem, the metric poem, the long poem, and then back to the traditional poem. • The poet seemed to realize the important role of the language in the artistic work. Therefore, his linguistic lexicon reflected not only the resistance spirit in himself, but it was also in harmony with the reality that he expressed and the nationalistic soul that interacted inside himself. He implemented some linguistic phenomena such as repetition and symbolism in constructing his poems. • The poet exploited various linguistic styles in constructing his poems. He was influenced by the dramatic construction and employed some of them such as quotation, sarcasm, interrogation, and vocative. • The poet was especially interested in the image which he formed from vocabulary that had Palestinian characteristic. In his poetry, he employed various styles in constructing his individual and compound images including personification, abstraction, and embodiment in building a lot of his individual images. He employed the dramatic and syllabic construction in forming his compound images. • The external music in his poetry was in harmony with the music of modern poetry. Al-Ramal metre occupied the first rank in his poetry. • The poet depended on various linguistic phenomena in forming his internal music including repetition of letters, words, and phrases.

Abstract :

“The Relationship between the Teacher’s practice for the Mathematical Geometric Question and the Ability to solve it by the Ninth Grades students in Jenin Governate Schools”. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of applying the skills of teaching the geometric and mathematical question by the teachers, and the effects of sex on the student’s ability to solve it. The practices that the teacher was asked to follow during the teaching of tangent and circular and quartet shapes unit in Ninth Grade’s book contain reading the question rapidly, then deeply, drawing the shape or the sketch of the question, identifying the data and what is required in the question , setting the solutions plan, carrying out the solution, and asking some students to repeat it orally , and ensuring the correctness of the solution. * The study tried to answer these two questions: 1- Does the student’s ability to solve the geometric mathematical question differ as a result of changing the teaching method? 2- Does the sex of the students affect students affect their ability to solve the geometric mathematical question? To answer the two above questions, the researcher chose eight schools using the random method oh both male and female students. He chose three boy’s school and four girls schools; he chose two Ninth Grade’s sections randomly from each school. The number of these sections was (14). The total number of the male and female students was (536). Out of the (14) sections, the researcher chose seven sections using the random methods to form the standard group. The sample of the study represented nearly (11%) of the study community which included (536) male and female students. As for the experimental group, it had (267) male and female students. There was an agreement between the researcher and the teacher in which the teacher is going to teach the members of these sections using special practices. The researcher supplied every teacher with a wall-sheet. On these cards, he wrote the steps that should be followed upon solving the geometric question. He asked those teachers to hang them up in the classrooms of the experimental sections during teaching the unit of the tangents, and the circular and quintet shapes. Also, the researcher supplied the teachers of the experimental sections with solved examples in accordance with the exhibited steps of the wall-sheet. Immediately after the teachers had finished teaching the unit, they applied the accomplishing test on the members of both the experimental and the standard groups, supplied to them by the researcher. After the researcher had corrected the test papers, and jolted down the marks, he used the (t-test). The findings of this study were as follow: 1- There are differences of statistical indication at the indication level (α=0.05 ) of the students ability to solve the geometric question, due to the teaching method, and in favour of teaching with the accordance of the suggested strategy steps . 2- There were differences of statistical indication at the indication level of (α=0.05) in the ability of the students to solve the geometric question due to the sex of the student, and in the favor of females. According to these findings, the researcher recommended that the teachers should use strategies of clear steps during teaching the tangent and the circular and quartet shapes unit, for this has an obvious effect on increasing the ability of the students to solve such questions.

Abstract :

This study sought to identify leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members themselves and students. It also investigated the role of sex, university, and academic level variables in these patterns. To these two ends, the researcher developed and administered a questionnaire to 1,931 faculty members and students. Of these, 1,666 were female and male students and 265were faculty members hailing from different Palestinian universities. The reliability coefficient of the questionnaire was o.86 and 0.85 fro the faculty members. And students respectively. For the purposes of the study, they are considered acceptable. The researcher also used SPSS program for the testing of the hypotheses. Hypotheses of the study: 1- There are no statistically significant difference at (α= 0.05) among the means of leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members them selves and students which may be attributed to the sex of both faculty members and students. 2- There are no statistically significant difference at (α= 0.05) among the means of leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members them selves and students which may be attributed to academic level of both faculty members and students. 3- There are no statistically significant difference at (α= 0.05) among the means of leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members them selves and students which may be attributed to place of living university variable of both faculty members and students. Results: After data collection and analysis, it was found that the democratic pattern got an average estimation as opposed to low estimation for both loose and dictator sling patters. More specifically, the results revealed that there were no statistically significant differences in the total score of leadership patterns which might be due to sex variable of both male and female faculty members. However, there were clear differences among male and female faculty members in the democratic pattern in favor of male, loose pattern in favor of male, loose pattern in favor of meals and dictatorship pattern also in favor of females. Moreover, results revealed that there were no statistically significant difference in the democratic pattern due to the sex variable of male and female students. However, there were obvious difference among male and female students in the loose pattern, did atorship pattern and total score of leadership patterns. The significances less than 0.05 and it was in favor of male students. The results, however, showed that there were significant difference in the total score of patterns and domains of leadership due to the academic level of both faculty members and students.

Al-Manat By Raed Abed-Alla h Bader Superviser Dr. Mohammad Ali Sartawi Abstract

Principles of Islam jurisprudence field is considered among the most important sciences in Islamic Sharia. This modest study addresses one significant aspect of this honorable field which is Discretion in the sharia cause. Islamic Sharia is a comprehensive complete one; and flexibility is one of its premirent features which enables scholars and Muslims to manipulate and adapt it to every time and location in accordance with prosperity and development factors. Discretion has thus been a crucial factor in developing the Islamic Sharia.

The most important instrument in Discretion is Al-Qias (analogy); the Sharic case is the basic element in Al-Qius. This Study deals with Discretion in Sharic cause itself both in its application and its extraction. This study sheds a light on the Al-Manat (sharic cause) concept including Al-Manat derivation, Al-Manat revisions and Al-Manat inquiry.

Al-Manat derivation is an important method in showing the development and change of a Sharic cause is related to a certain text. It focuses on texts where the Sharic cause is not stated because it has to do with life innovations and development.

Al-Manat revision is an important way in expanding the Sharic text circle enabling it to cover a wide range of people’s conducts.

Al-Manat inquiry in its two occurrences - particular and general - is a protection for the applicative Discretor; such protection helps the Discretor avoid the traditional and arbitrary application of Sharic rules. This enables the Discretor to move from applying the general Manat on conducts and sayings to particular Manat, undergoing a process of inquiry and examination. The Discretor may turn to Sharic emergency plans, such as approval, prohibition of that may lead to committing sins and controversy considerateness. These plans are a consequence of inquiring the particular Manat and playing a role in protecting the Islamic Sharia from contradiction and elimination.

The study discussed the foundation and types if land usage, the fraditional theories, then the city of the study and its position a the other Palestinian cities.

Then it canoe to discussing the three Stnzctural Plans of the city; the first one was prepared during the mandatory British regime, and is considered as the t principal step for the other plans, which adopted its lines, trying, somehow, to increase the city’s space

The study clarified all the types of usage of all the plans comparing them all in concern M space and other fields.

The study also, revSed the contradictions of prepping the lands and the reality, it also cleared the truer usage of the city’s land, and the way they were used by the municipality, and then the study analyzed these plans, revealing the unfair completion between the different types of usage, this matter of ct that is encouraged through the absence of supervision and the factor of the benefits client

Abstract :

This research deals by means of study and analysis the grammatical efforts of one of the most famous grammarians of Alkufa school.

He took over his teacher Alkissaei to complete the formation of this school. This grammarian is called Abu Zakariya Yahya Ben Ziyad Al Ferra`a Al Daylami.

Previous researches and thesis concentrated very much on the bright side, of the lives of the ancient, whereas the less famous aspect, whose importance shrank by the great fame of the bright side, was neglected. But this study can be considered as a good step in the study of the ancients. The study of Al Farra`s grammatical effort was a good beginning for the future studies for some Arab figures in phonology, semantics, syntax and style.

To acomplish this aim I have tried to cover the subject from all its sides. So I collected all the material that is related to Al Farr`a in both ancient and modern books - I have analysed this material, divided it and put it in index. Some times I compared Al Farra`s opinions with others. In the introduction of this study I dealt with the cause and objective of the study, its importance, his previous studies and the methodology. In the preface I dealt with the life of Al Farr`a, his birth and background, the resources of his knowledge and other scientists, caliphates, political parties and readings. I talked about his students, his books, the opinion of other scientists and finally his death .

The first chapter bears the title "The Resource of Al Ferra`s Morphology". I have found that these resources include the Glorious Quran and its reading. The prophet`s teaching, Arab saying and poetry. The second chapter is "Morphology'. Here, I studied Morphology on which Al Farra" opposed the Basra school.

In chapter three. I handeld his morphological efforts which include: the definition of morphology, parts of speech, verbs, gerunds, derevation, word coin, nouns and other phono- morphological cases.

The ancient headed by Al Farra` didn’t differentiate between phonology and morphology, so phonology was studied under mor phology.

By this research I intended to make it an easy reference that includes the mor pholoyical efforts of Al Ferra` so that other scholars can benefit from, especiallay the beginners.

It includes some worke reading and studying morphological cases.

Al Farra` was the brightest and the most Kufa mor phologist because all the morphological issues and subject were included under the topic "Morphology'.

Abstract :

This research discusses the stability of the first canonical weight vector from the one-factor structure derivation of the exact formula for the weight’s variance and the asymptotic distribution of the weight are emphasized to give theoretical robustness to the concept of stability. The closeness of the exact and asymptotic variances points to the precision of the derivation.

It was proven that the weight , where the asymptotic variance is . The greater sample size the less variance of the weight will be, and hence more stable weight.

Abstract :

The goal of this study is to be acquainted with the value structure of students at the Palestinian universities. This study also tried to investigate the effect of the students’ gender, college, home residence, educational level, parents’ educational level, income, grade point average (GPA), and travel abroad on the value structure of the student.

A random sample consisting of 700 students was selected from several Palestinian universities: An-Najah National University, Bier-Zeit University and Arabs American University. The instrument used during this study was Rokeach value. The collected data was analyzed by computer program (SPSS) and the following results were obtained:Palestinian students gave importance to the terminal values such as religiousness, family security, and self-esteem, and to instrumental values such as ambitious, open minded and honesty. On the other hand, they showed less importance to the terminal values such as, social recognition, beautiful world, happiness and interest, And to instrumental values such as reliable, obedient, bless and happiness.

1. There is no significant mean difference between the value structure and the demographic of (gender, college, home residence, income, grade point average, student’s educational level, parents’ educational level, and travels abroad.

In the scope of the results of this study, we can classify the terminal and the instrumental values regarding to the preference of Palestinian university students into two major categories:

a) Strongly preferred values

b) Weakly preferred values

Based on the study findings the researcher recommended:

1. While supporting the terminal and the instrumental values of type (a) mentioned above one should strengthen type (b) until it approaches the preference level of type (a).

2. Some obligatory courses about values should be included in university programs.

3. In order to emphasize the importance of the different values, implant them in the souls of students, and to apply them in their daily lives, leaflets and booklets concerning the different educational values have to be published and distributed among school and university students either through voluntary activities or through regular studying programs.

4. A comparison research program dealing with the educational values in Arab countries on one side and the European countries on the other have to be established.

Future Studies:

For future work, I recommend to make a preference value study dealing with samples of higher educational level. Such samples can be picked-up from the university employees, engineers and medical doctors.
